  • Scrubs Reloaded

For a while, I have been rewatching Scrubs again. I have seen each episode many times before. And while some of the humor and attitude of the show have aged poorly, most of it still holds up. It’s also just nice to reminisce of the times when I first watched these.

Whenever I rewatch something, I also skim its Wikipedia page to see what the actors and crew are up to now, who has died, who made it big and who is in jail because they were sexist/racist (hate it when this ruins a show for me!)

In this case, I was very surprised to find out season 10 is coming in about a week from now! Don’t know if this is a “oh no” or “hell yes” moment, but I’ll sure give it a watch.

  • Alien: Covenant

There’s not a lot to like about the movie Alien: Covenant. But there are a few memorable moments. Some I remember for the cringe, like the flute fingering. But others I found generally good and enjoyable treatments of the Alien staples, such as the buildup to and ensuing chaos of the crew’s first encounter with the Alien in the ship’s medbay.

A very intense scene, with good sound design and very good and graphic body horror. I find myself thinking of this scene from time to time and remembering it in a positive way. Here, I said it.

Won’t redeem the movie, but credit where it’s due, I guess.

  • Thoughts

I’m trying something new; posting more frequently. Shorter posts, random thoughts of the day. I have been hesitant to publish a lot on Mastodon, mostly because of the commitment to a specific server that will host my content. As the posts themselves are not transferrable to a different server, there is a lot of lock-in and I don’t feel comfortable with that thought.

I have tried a few approaches over the years. Building my own microblog software. Running my own instance of Mastodon on a Raspberry Pi. Looking into other Fediverse platforms. Since I have no definite solution, I’m doing it the Louie Mantia way – publish on the site I already have (not plain HTMl/CSS, but you get the point.)

So, let’s see whether I can keep it up (zing!), starting with a thought on the movie Alien:Covenant.

  • Baby Alia Wallpaper from Dune Part Two

Some of the most striking images in Dune Part Two, at least for me, were the inside-the-womb visuals of Paul’s unborn sister Alia. I liked it so much I made a wallpaper from one of the stills, and I guess, I can share it here. It’s upscaled, modified and cleaned up, pretty opinionated stuff, but I like it best this way.

If you like it, leave a comment! Happy to hear about your thoughts on it.

The linked image is a 1080p JPG image, but I also made two versions in HEIC format, which should do for most larger resolutions. Enjoy!

  • Halal sign in sans-serif font

Just what it says on the tin: I recently had a project that uses a sans-serif font for most of the communication and I needed to put a Halal sign on a flyer. Arabic seems to have a preference for non-uniform stroke weight, so it didn’t quite integrate with what I had already designed.

A short web search yielded no (!) results for a sans-serif halal sign, so I quickly made one using Noto Sans. My Arabic isn’t very good (0%, yikes!), so I dabbled in InDesign until it looked right. Used the “World-ready paragraph composer” for the first time in my life! Anyway, here you go, I give this to the public domain, aka. the Internet. May it be of help.
