An incomplete list of nice free sans-serif fonts for websites
This is mainly a list for myself, as I often forget there are a few decent font choices available today, even if the project requires the use of free (as in beer) fonts.
- Inter UI
- IBM Plex Sans (and possibly iA Writer Fonts)
- Public Sans (US Government Design Language Font)
- Work Sans (Variable)
- Cooper Hewitt
- Noto Sans
- Open Sans
- Source Sans Pro
- Open Sauce (Sans/One/Two)
- PT Sans
- Lato
- Satoshi (closed source)
- Optician Sans
- Use CSS System font (Roboto, San Francisco, Segoe UI):
font-family: system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;
A few more with Asterisks:
- Fira Sans (somewhat peculiar letterforms)
- Microsoft Bahnschrift (A version of DIN, check license first!)
- Palanquin (I have never used this one before)
- M+1p (peculiar letterforms, made to match chinese characters)
- Average Sans (thin and somewhat cute, but only has 1 weight: regular)
- Glacial Indifference (regular, italic, bold, geometric letterforms)
- Modernist (somewhat Helvetica-like)
- Cloud (regular, bold)
- Helmet (only 1 style: regular)
PS: I also maintain a list of nice design systems for color and type as reference for webdesign projects.
